The forty-third yearly Golden Joystick Awards took place this past week, and through an impressive display, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 claimed the title of the top winner. The surprise role-playing game by Sandfall Interactive won the prestigious Top Game award, along with honors for Best Storytelling and Excellence in Visuals.
Enhancing the developer's success, its talented actors also received personal awards. Jennifer English was named Outstanding Lead Performance for her portrayal as Maelle, while Ben Starr took home Supporting Performance Award for his role as Verso. Additionally, Sandfall Interactive itself was honored as Studio of the Year. In total, Clair Obscur and its developers achieved 7 awards throughout the show.
Other major winners included Ghost of Yōtei, which was awarded Outstanding Audio and Best Console Game, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, receiving Outstanding Independent Game and Premier PC Title. Worth mentioning, the lion's share of Golden Joystick Awards are voted on by the gamers, with only four categories—Critics Choice, Rising Star, Hall of Fame inductee, and Streamers' Favorite—determined by experts.
