The most recent action-packed game that gamers experienced was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and came out back in October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is famous for celebrating chaos and mayhem with equal glee, all while telling engaging, ideologically themed stories. No wonder then that FX's new order for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two producers whose projects have exemplified all of those elements.
Adapted from Ubisoft's hit video game property, the short-run anthology series will be available on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The series will also parallel the video games' structure by featuring a new backdrop and ensemble in every instalment.
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as showrunners on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for placing confidence in us with this cherished property.”
Mac will also appear in the show, but as of now, we do not know what part that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just approved for more episodes, with FX and Disney signing a new long-term contract with the showrunner.
“Getting to work together with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous, trusting us with one of the most renowned video-game worlds ever created. And throughout this process, my FX partners constantly supports me with their ongoing trust and support.”
“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an standalone show. Every instalment is a interpretation of a theme, the same way every run of Fargo is a variation on a premise,” said Hawley. “To create a big action show that can evolve from season to season, while always examining the essence of people through this multifaceted and turbulent lens, is a long-held aspiration. I’m thrilled to collaborate with Rob and introduce our shared bold, ambitious style to the screen.”
A release window for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
