Fans looking forward to the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start too much longer. An free-to-play trial experience will become available on Jan. 7, providing a sizable glimpse into the game's beginning segments. Critically, all progress achieved within this demo can be transferred directly into the full game upon its February launch.
This project is a ground-up reinterpretation of the landmark 2000 RPG, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable step away from other series re-releases, like the recently launched HD-2D versions, this version adopts a unique 3D art style. The world appear to look like detailed miniature worlds, with protagonists featuring a whimsical toy-like appearance.

Such changes seek to tackle a key the 2000 title's common criticisms: its daunting length. That original storyline was known to take more than 100 hours to finish. The new version has been expressly structured to enhance progression and reduce any filler.
Curious players will be able to begin exploring the reimagined world of DQ7 for themselves when the free trial releases on Wednesday, January 7th. Subsequently, the full game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, is then set to release on February 5, 2026. It will be available on a broad selection of platforms, such as Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
