Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
