The incident led to the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

Formal charges have been brought against two men related to a suitcase robbery where a suspected pepper spray led to people being hurt at the major London air hub.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two counts of robbery and charges for using a harmful chemical, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Earlier that day, two female travelers had their suitcases stolen after getting out of a car park lift, police said.

A young child was one of the people hurt during the incident. Several persons required hospital care and were eventually allowed to go home.

The incident – which authorities stated was not part of a series and not being treated as terrorism – led to disruptions to rail services and the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area for a brief period.
